Julie Harris is the founder of Riverbend Coaching, a firm specializing in helping people to clarify their vision, establish effective marketing strategies, and embody the skills they need to be successful as leaders of small and growing businesses. Using the philosophy that the self is the foundation for the business, she helps clients to blend their creativity, vision and energy with the discipline and grounding necessary to make their dreams a reality.
Julie is certified as an Integral Coach through New Ventures West’s ICF-accredited Professional Coaching Course program. Over the last 20 years, she has continually evolved her experiences and skills while pursuing her interests in research, healthcare and learning. Julie began her career at Catalyst, a non-profit organization, researching work/family balance and women’s advancement in the workplace. After receiving her MBA in Marketing from New York University, she spent 11 years in marketing, and in training and development at Pfizer. One of her key marketing accomplishments was leading the creation and execution of global strategy for a $4 billion cardiovascular business.
During her tenure in training and development, Julie began to hone in on what excited her about management: helping people to move toward becoming their best and most authentic selves. She began by creating The Ropes, helping new marketers to excel by gaining a clearer understanding of themselves and the organization. As her interest and training in coaching progressed, she successfully spearheaded the creation of a peer coaching network to help leaders sharpen their coaching and networking skills.
While Julie has always enjoyed reinventing herself intellectually, the birth of her first daughter led her to start wondering whether a whole new approach to life was needed. After the birth of her second daughter, Julie experimented with various approaches to work, including telecommuting and part-time work schedules. Her desire for increased flexibility and a way of life that honors her own and her family’s needs led her to found Riverbend Coaching in 2004.
In the past decade, Julie has revitalized herself by rediscovering her love of dance, satisfying a desire to learn watercolor painting, and developing a regular yoga practice. In 2006, Julie deepened her study of yoga by completing a 200-hour teacher training course in Anusara-style hatha yoga. She is thrilled to say that she enjoys fulfilling work, spending time with family and friends, and pursuing her numerous interests as she journeys through life with her husband, two daughters and two cats. Julie is an avid reader, and a life-long learner who finds teachers everywhere she looks. She loves combining her analytical background with her movement, creative and spiritual training to support the full range of human possibility.
